Fixed Fees for Probate: Reassuringly, Not By Weight of File!

by Paul Hajek on

A perennial complaint against solicitors is their propensity to overcharge.

The case of a Norfolk Solicitor who is being struck off takes overcharging to a new level.

The Solicitor in question was charged with other irregularities, but one complaint upheld against him, involved charging estates of deceased Testators’ by how heavy the file was, and not by the time actually expended on the file.

In this day and age it is frustrating that such practices exist, although it is also pleasing that miscreants are found and expelled from the profession. That legal practice is also now defunct.

The public need to be reassured that they get fair pricing from their probate lawyers, as well as transparent pricing in all the legal matters their Solicitors are instructed to carry out.

The internet has been a boon for those law firms who are totally transparent in their fee structures.

If you are not able to find out the exact fees being charged, you should be able to get an estimate of what is involved.

Other the most complex of matters, you should be able to have a fixed fee with a guarantee of no hidden extras, in areas such as Conveyancing, Wills and Probate.

Probate has traditionally been an area of high fees especially where a Bank is an Executor.

Now by typing into Google for example “fixed fees probate Chipping Sodbury”, you will be able to find and instruct a law firm who will give you the added peace of mind that there will be no nasty surprises when the final Bill is paid
